Trivia:

"Taishi o Idake" (大志を抱け, "be ambitious") came from the famous quote "Boys, be ambitious" (少年よ、大志を抱け) of Prof. William Smith Clark (1826-1886), foreign adviser, founder and first principal of Sapporo Agricultural College (now Hokkaido University). The quote is still the motto of Hokkaido University, and the gesture of his statue (with his right arm raised), along with the quote, have been mimicked by numerous forms of artistic creations.
