(1959) He joined the Children’s Theatre Association and remained there for the remainder of his life in Baltimore.
(1974) He moved to New York and became an editor at Grosset & Dunlap, while writing plays including “Dreamstuff”, a musical version of Shakespeare’s “The Tempest”.
(1977) He became associated with the off-off-Broadway WPA Theatre.
(1984) He first met Bill Lauch at Boy Bar in Greenwich Village. Bill became Howard’s domestic partner and lived with him until Howard’s death.
(1986) He first started contributing with the Disney company by writing the song "Once Upon A Time In New York City" for the film "Oliver & Company".
(1988) He learned he was diagnosed with HIV+.
(1991-03-14) He died from AIDS related complications at St. Vincent's Hospital in Harrison, NY; USA.
(2001) He was posthumously awarded a Disney Legends award for his contribution to music.
