Gantz's Omnibus Edition Puts Hatsune Miku on the Cover

Hiroya Oku also releases book on 100 sci-fi films that influenced Gantz

The second volume of the Gantz Reboot Sōshū-hen manga omnibus shipped last week with a bonus — a Hatsune Miku variant cover. Gantz Reboot Sōshū-hen is a special edition of Hiroya Oku's original science-fiction action manga that combines five volumes worth of story in each volume. The second 1,000-page Gantz Reboot Sōshū-hen volume includes a "Gantz 3.9" cover with Hatsune Miku, as drawn by Shūkan Hajimete no Hatsune Miku artist Kentarō Hayashi. ("3.9" is a wordplay on how "39" can be pronounced in Japanese as "Miku.")

The collaborative crossovers continue in the third Gantz Reboot Sōshū-hen volume, which will bundle a variant cover drawn by Nejimaki Kagyū manga creator Atsushi Nakayama on May 8.

Shueisha's Shinsho imprint will then compile and expand Oku's illustrated magazine column into a book called Gantz na SF Eiga-Ron (Essays on Gantz-Like Science Fiction Films) on May 10. The column in Shueisha's Miracle Jump magazine and the book discuss about 100 science-fiction films — from Back to the Future to minor B-grade films — that had an huge impact on Oku's creation of Gantz's story.

Also on May 10, Shueisha will publish the 34th volume of Gantz and this year's 24th issue of Weekly Young Jump magazine. Oku is illustrating the cover of that Young Jump issue with Gantz. To promote all of these publications, Shueisha is canvasing Tokyo's Shibuya train station with over 50 giant, B0-size posters from April 30 to May 6 (Japan's Golden Week holidays).
