Love, Chunibyo, and Other Delusions Gets Its Own Train

posted on by Eric Stimson
Railway hopes to encourage pilgrimages to picturesque Kansai city

The 2012 high school anime Love, Chunibyo & Other Delusions! is set in Ōtsu, the capital of Shiga Prefecture near Kyoto. Characters commuted to school via Ishiyama Station on the Keihan Ishiyama-Sakamoto Line. As a commemoration, the line is introducing a train featuring the show's characters. One car depicts them in their normal high school uniforms and is painted pink, while the other represents the imaginary world of the titular "delusions" and is painted blue.

The train runs 12 round trips a day and will stay in service until March 2015. Starting on April 26, a one-day pass featuring Chunibyo characters will be sold at Hamaōtsu Station (¥2,000/$19.50 for a set of four). Keihan Electric Railway hopes that the promotion will attract anime fans to the area for anime pilgrimages, as Ōtsu is rich in locations featured in Chunibyo. It also hopes they will "discover the pleasures of Ōtsu," as it is renowned for its scenery — it is located on the shores of Lake Biwa, Japan's largest lake, and was immortalized in paint by Hiroshige.
