Mario Spotted at the Olympics — On the U.S. Curling Team
posted on by Lynzee Loveridge
While some of this year's Winter Olympics performances' anime references are right out in the open, others are keeping their fandom on the DL. Take for example, U.S. Curling athlete Matt Hamilton's ensemble that offers a not-so-subtle shout out to the (digital) Olympian, Mario.
It's a Me and @heccabamilton playing Sweden in game three! Live stream at 6:30EST through @NBCSN app!! Can I get a #HamFam ?! Where you all watching from tonight? #TeamUSA #teamhamiltons #curling #MixedDoublesCurling @usacurl pic.twitter.com/tHBSbOl3As

Hamilton's similarities to the Nintendo hero were quick to catch viewers' eyes. Whether intentional or not, both he and the official U.S. Olympic Team are running with the joke.

The U.S. curling team played Finland on Sunday in the seventh session but ultimately lost at 5 to 7. Canada defeated Norway today and Switzerland defeated the Olympic Athlete from Russia in the semi-finals. Olympic Athlete from Russia will face Norway tomorrow for the bronze medal and Canada will face Switzerland for the Gold.
