Music Awards Japan 2026 Kicks Into Gear As Japanese Music Faces The World

Tokyo, Japan — The second edition of MUSIC AWARDS JAPAN (MAJ), the country's largest music awards ceremony, is set to be bigger in every way when it happens on June 13, 2026. After making history in 2025 at Kyoto's ROHM Theater, this year's event moves to Toyota Arena Tokyo in the nation's capital. Alongside the larger space, a record number of entries have already been submitted across this year's award categories while programming alongside the main ceremony is also growing.

“We launched MAJ under the concept of 'connecting with the world and illuminating the future of music,' and we're excited to bring even more people from all over the world to Tokyo to celebrate Japanese music and offer a look at where it's going in the future,” Tatsuya Nomura, MUSIC AWARDS JAPAN Chairman says.

MAJ arrives at a moment when Japanese music has enjoyed greater attention on the global stage than ever before. Since the first ceremony in May 2025, Japanese artists representing every corner of the country's music scene have embarked on successful world tours while songs offering unique takes on sound continue to surprise listeners via streaming services, short-form content or anime themes.

“Japanese music has taken big strides in heading out abroad,” Nomura says. “With this year's MAJ, we want to bring that attention to the country itself, and show the world that Tokyo is one of the most important places when it comes to shaping the global music industry.”

Alongside spotlighting the current state of the country's music space, Nomura wants the shows and events happening around the ceremony on June 13 to honor the rich sonic history of the country, which more and more listeners around the world have discovered over the last decade. The schedule of events will be revealed at a Tokyo press conference on March 19, alongside the entry titles for each category.

“We want MAJ to be more than just a single awards ceremony. It should be a gathering where the full history of Japanese music — past, present and future — gets time to shine, and show it belongs on the world stage.”
