posted on by Lynzee Loveridge
Inio Asano is well known for his emotionally raw manga series about young adulthood, including Goodnight Punpun, A Girl on the Shore, Nijigahara Holograph, and recently Dead Dead Demon's Dededededestruction. Asano has shared his complex ideas on manga creation, specifically ethically challenging his readers, but has otherwise maintained a personal distance from his work. In a new essay manga collection, Asano talks directly about himself.
Mangakka Nyūmon (Introduction to a Manga Creator) was released in print September 14 from stories previously posted on publisher Chikuma Shobō's website. The stories discuss Asano's life before his marriage to artist Akane Torikai. Asano discusses his decision to buy a home, attending school, and how the world of manga creation has changed since his debut in the 1990s. Asano also imparts his opinion on the future of manga.
Torikai also published her essay manga Manga Mitai na Koi Kudasai on Chikuma's site.
Asano was born in 1980 and is well-known for his emotionally driven stories about adolescence. He made his manga debut while still in high school. His works include Solanin, A Girl on the Shore, Goodnight Punpun, and most recently, Dead Dead Demon's Dededededestruction.
