New Japanese Anime Magazines

Although the anime magazine market is slowing down in Japan, two new (and unusual) anime magazines have appeared. Entitled "OtomeX" and "PALATTA", these two magazines intend to primarily cover bishoujo (beautiful girl) characters from various anime and manga series.

Animaxis describes these magazines as unusual because, "Usually ... a manga is serialized in a magazine of sorts, then the manga books are published, then an anime is produced and last of all character goods. However the most recent trend has seen the creation and popularization of characters first, which may then result in manga or anime being created afterwards. Taking this into consideration both of these magazines are attempting to present anime and characters in a different way from other anime magazines."

OtomeX, whose first issue is available November 29th, will feature "Broccoli Complete", a look at the heroines of DejiCharat, Galaxy Angel, Aquarian Age, and various other Broccoli anime series, specifically for fans of Broccoli's works. Also in the premiere issue is a look at Final Fantasy: Unlimited.

This magazine also takes a look at The AlchemiStory: Gekko no Myria, a Japanese-only Original Web Novel.

OtomeX debuts with a cover price of 780 yen, and is published by Hobby Japan.

The second magazine, PALETTA, has been in publication since October 18th, and is published by Enterbrain.
