Tokyopop's Plans For World Domination

posted on by Garry Berryhill
Feeding on their successes in 2002, Tokyopop has outlined its plans for 2003.

Tokyopop had a banner year in 2002, pushing its cheaper "100% Authentic" line into the minds of consumers everywhere. Their aggressive marketing into mainstream distribution took manga out of comic stores and into record, video and book shops. They made use of cross-promotion whenever possible pushing not only a show, but the accompanying manga.

Tokyopop hopes to increase its distribution dramatically in 2003. They have plans for a combined manga/DVD display, which will allow for retailers to show related products together. Also in the works is a spinning display designed to hold fifty manga titles. More collector's sets are on the way, and more titles will be packaged with related products.

Tokyopop has no plans to produce a periodical, preferring to focus on the paperback market that has treated them so kindly in the past year. A paperback "sampler" anthology is planned, perhaps to be given away as part of a promotion.

DVD collector's boxes are also on the way, and will be packaged with the later volumes of the show, instead of with the first volume.
