7co Announces Major Debut With First Anime Tie-In Song 'nekojarashi' as the Opening Theme of TV anime You and I Are Polar Opposites

Tokyo, Japan – One of 2026's most promising breakout Japanese artists 7co (pronounced: Nanako) has officially announced the release of their major debut single “nekojarashi.”

The track serves as the opening theme for Season 2 of the TV anime You and I Are Polar Opposites (Seihantai na Kimi to Boku), marking 7co's first-ever anime tie-in and a major milestone in their rapidly growing career.

Written specifically for the anime, “nekojarashi” blends 7co's distinctive lyrical style, praised for its vivid imagery and emotional realism, with the atmosphere of the series. Inspired by the image of a foxtail plant that continues to sway even after being stepped on, the song captures the clumsy yet genuine emotions of young love through buoyant rhythms, delicate melodies and emotionally direct lyrics.

The single will be available digitally worldwide starting Sunday, July 5, coinciding with the premiere of the anime's second season.

Alongside their major debut, 7co will hold their first self-produced live event, “75 no Hi vol.1,”  on July 5, a playful nod to the Japanese reading of “7” (“nana”) and “5” (“go”), referencing the pronunciation of the artist name, Nanako. They have also been announced as performers at SUMMER SONIC 2026, one of Japan's biggest music festivals. As momentum continues to build across both the anime and live music worlds, 7co is rapidly establishing themselves as one of 2026's standout new artists.

Based on the award-winning manga by Kōcha Agasawa, You and I Are Polar Opposites has surpassed 2 million copies in circulation worldwide, including digital editions, and has earned widespread acclaim through numerous manga awards. Following the success of its first anime season in January 2026, the highly anticipated second season is set to air this summer.

Comment from 7co

“When I first read the manga, I seriously started wondering if there was any way to become a student again.

I also became completely obsessed with Tani-kun's cat, ‘Tempura’, to the point that every lyric in my first demo probably included the word 'Tempura.'

During recording, I imagined Suzuki-san the entire time, and I sang in a slightly different tone than I usually do.

This song expresses the bittersweet feelings of young love and the fleeting emotions of youth through the image of a foxtail plant growing quietly by the roadside.

It would make me incredibly happy if this song could gently support the feelings of the characters in the story.”
