Spirited Away fails to Break 10 Million

Final numbers for Spirited Away's theatrical run have been tallied, and after 36 weeks in theatres the Oscar winner pulled in just under $10 million. The post Oscar release started on March 28th and peaked at 714 theatres on the weekend of April 4th. Although Spirited Away never reached the suggested 800 theatres, it's post Oscar release seems to have been fairly typical.
Spirited Away's Largest gross per theater were at the very beginning of it's limited release, surpassing a very respectable $17 000 per theatre onits opening weekend.
But more than a third of the movie's total theatrical revenue was generated during the first three weeks of its wide release, despite a significantly lower per a theatre.
