Taiwan's Largest Book Event, Which Expects over 500,000 attendees this year, to Feature Many Guests from Japan
The largest business fair at Taipei World Trade Center (TWTC) every year, Taipei International Book Exhibition (TIBE), will hold its 14th yearly event from February 7 to February 12, 2006. All three Exhibition Halls will be utilized to their fullest extent, and Hall II will be reserved for comics, animation, and related media (e.g. light novels).
Unlike previous years, organizer Taipei Book Fair Foundation (TBFF) asked Shuffle Alliance, the most famous anime/comics/games (ACG) fan group in Taiwan, to coordinate activities and events for Hall II. Ying-Tsou “Jo-Jo” Huang, founder of Shuffle Alliance, stated that the slogan for TIBE 2006 Hall II would be “Reading, so Young!” because reading itself is the most fashionable and youthful activity, thus the younger generation should seize the day and engage with high-quality readings.
In order to echo the cultural discussions of the four countries (Germany, France, Poland and Greece) invited by TBFF, Jo-Jo has designed “the four European nations in anime and manga” as the main theme of Hall II: The Rose of Versailles for French Revolution, Monster for German sceneries and cultures, Mazinger Z for Greek mythology, and Avalon for Polish realities.
Furthermore, TIBE and individual exhibitors have invited many guests for the six-day event, including Ageha Ohkawa, a member of highly popular circle CLAMP. Invited by Shuffle Alliance -with the assistance of Mitsuhisa Ishikawa, chairman and CEO of Production I.G, this would be her and CLAMP's first public event overseas. The Ishikawa and Ohkasa will host a discussion panel entitled "From Manga to Anime."
A partial list of other guests and events includes:
-Autograph Sessions for Tachibana Higuchi, Iqura Sugimoto, Sakura Tsukuba, Yoshinori Natsume
-Premiere of Black Jack: The Two Doctors Of Darkness with Makoto Tezuka, Akio Ohtsuka and Yūko Mizutani in attendance.
- Discussion Panel: Light Novels: Developmental Experiences in Japan and Prospects in Taiwan with Tomo Takabayashi and Nozomi Ohmori
The full list of guests and events is available from the Chinese section of TIBE's website.
