Shinichi Watanabe to Appear in Houston, Texas May 15
posted on by Egan Loo
ADV Films has confirmed an announcement that director Shinichi "Nabeshin" Watanabe will appear for a discussion at the Alamo Drafthouse Cinemas in the West Oaks Mall in Houston, Texas on Tuesday, May 15. An episode of Watanabe's Nerima Daikon Brothers will also screen as part of the theater's regular free anime showings on Tuesdays. Nerima's English dialogue director Chris Ayres made the first announcement of Watanabe's appearance during an earlier May 1 showing. Doors will open at 6:45 p.m., and the event will start at 7:30 p.m.
Shinichi Watanabe is most famous for his off-beat comedic direction and his even more unorthodox cameo appearances in Excel Saga, its spinoff Puni Puni Poemy, and more recently, Nerima Daikon Brothers. He also directed Gravitation: Lyrics of Love and Tenchi Muyo! GXP.
Spokesperson Chris Oarr says the event will be ADV Films' opportunity to salute Watanabe for his entire career. This will be the first time since the theater's Guyver: The Bioboosted Armor series showing that many ADV staffers, including the English Nerima cast and production team, will be officially present.
ANN will be covering the event and posting a video report from it. Thank you to Chris Valdez and Chris Oarr for this item.
