Manga-Based Battlefield Baseball Flash Anime Confirmed

posted on by Egan Loo
Jigoku Kōshien also spawned martial arts film spoof with Versus' Sakaguchi

Jigoku Kōshien (Hell Baseball Tournament), Man-gatarō's manga spoof on martial arts and sports, will spawn a Flash-animated DVD that will ship in Japan on February 13. The animated DVD was confirmed via the launch of its official website, which features a promotional video. Shueisha's Business Jump magazine had announced in August that the avant-garde gag artist's manga titles would be adapted into videos, but did not reveal at the time whether the videos would be animated, live-action, or something else entirely.

The Jigoku Kōshien manga ran in Shueisha's Monthly Shonen Jump magazine from 1996 to 1997, and three volumes were compiled and published. The manga already inspired Yūdai Yamaguchi's 2002 live-action Battlefield Baseball film, which starred Tak Sakaguchi (Versus, SHINOBI, Azumi, Cromartie High: The Movie). Yamaguchi directed another live-action project based on Man-gatarō's Babāzone anthology of manga shorts.
