Crunchyroll Adds Live-Action MPD Psycho, More Tomie

posted on by Egan Loo

The Crunchyroll media-distribution website has announced that it will stream Takashi Miike's live-action television adaptation of the MPD Psycho manga and two more live-action films based on Junji Ito's Tomie horror manga. Before Miike found mainstream film success by filming Crows Zero and Yatterman, he directed six television episodes based on Eiji Ohtsuka and Shōu Tajima's manga about a detective with multiple personalities. BCI/Eclipse released the television series on DVD in North America, while Dark Horse Comics released the eighth volume of the original manga last month.

Crunchyroll adds to its existing library of three Tomie films with Tomie: Rebirth (2000) and Tomie: Forbidden Fruit (2002). Like the previous three films, these stories follow different incarnations of Tomie, a mysterious girl who appears again and again in various people's lives and haunts them until their eventual end. ADNESS released these two films on DVD in North America, while ComicsOne published the original manga.

Crunchyroll is debuting one or more of these works on its website every Tuesday, starting with the first MPD Psycho episodes this week. The website also announced the addition of more Korean live-action television dramas — Behind the White Tower, Dr. Gang, H.I.T., and One Fine Day — this week.
