Brave Battle Warriors to be double-billed with 5th Sgt. Frog film

Kadokawa Pictures has confirmed at a Tokyo press conference on Wednesday that the previously revealed anime version of Bandai's BB Senshi Sangokuden model line will be a theatrical film. Chō Denei-ban SD Gundam Sangokuden Brave Battle Warriors will open in Japan on February 27 in a double billing with the fifth Sgt. Frog (Keroro Gunsō) film, Chō Gekijō-ban Keroro Gunsō Tanjō! Kyūkyoku Keroro Kiseki no Jikūjima de Arimasu!! The anime studio Sunrise is producing both films.

Like the plastic models and manga that preceded it, the SD Gundam Sangokuden film will feature the heroes of the Chinese literary classic Romance of the Three Kingdoms — only they have been re-imagined as two-head-high Super Deformed Gundam robots. Liu Bei (Ryū Bi) Gundam, Guan Yu (Kan U) Gundam, and Zhang Fei (Chō Hi) Gundam protect the legendary continent Mirisha from General Dong Zhuo (Tō Taku) Zaku, the assassin Hu Zhen (Ko Shin) Gyan, and other enemies.

Scriptwriter Miyuki Kishimoto (Kekkaishi) wrote the screenplay, and Kunihiro Mori (Mars Daybreak, Shonen Onmyouji) and Kenichi Suzuki (Gundam Evolve 8, SD Gundam Force's CG technical director) are directing the film. Shinya Terashima (Kanzen Shouri Daiteioh, Yume Tsukai) is designing the SD characters. A manga called BB Senshi Sangokuden ~Senshin Kettō-hen~ has been running in Kadokawa Shoten's Kerokero Ace magazine.
