X Japan Members Yoshiki, Sugizo to Perform at Otakon

Masquerade concert is 1 week before band's Lollapalooza appearance

Baltimore-based anime convention Otakon has announced that YOSHIKI and Sugizo of Japanese visual-kei rock band X Japan would make a special appearance and perform live at the convention's masquerade on July 31.

Songwriter, drummer, and pianist YOSHIKI and X Japan guitarist Sugizo (formerly of Luna Sea, another visual-kei band), will perform at Otakon one week prior to X Japan's performance at Lollapalooza in Chicago.

The band had intended to hold a "simple" concert in Los Angeles, CA prior to its Lollapalooza appearance, but the event has yet to be officially announced and scheduled. YOSHIKI also said in February that the entire band would relocate to Los Angeles, but the band has not made any announcements about moving since then.

X Japan's contributions to anime include songs from the music video collection and the Madhouse-animated film adaptation of CLAMP's X manga. The band was founded under the name X in 1982 and disbanded in 1997, a year before the band's original guitarist Hideto "hide" Matsumoto passed away. The group reunited in 2007.
