Crayon Shin-Chan Spawns Shin-Men Hero Anime, Manga
posted on by Egan Loo
The Crayon Shin-chan television anime series will launch a spinoff superhero comedy anime and manga series called Crayon Shin-chan Shin-men next month. The staff of the main Crayon Shin-chan anime series will produce the monthly anime episodes, and the manga series will be credited to "Yoshito Usui & UY Studio" — the late creator of Crayon Shin-chan and his studio. The spinoff is part of the larger "Crayon Shin-chan 20th Anniversary Project" which includes this year's relaunch of the original manga and the 20th anime film in spring of 2012.
The spinoff is set in a parallel world known as "Shin Jigen" ("Shin Dimension"). The titular Shin-men team is composed of five heroes with supernatural powers symbolized by fire (Gō), water (Sui), wind (Hyū), greenery (Nyoki), and iron (Kan). Together, they fight against their enemy, the evil pigs of Ton-Men.
The anime will launch with a one-hour special on November 26 at 7:00 p.m. After that, one new episode is slated to air every month in Crayon Shin-chan's usual timeslot of 7:30 p.m. on Fridays. The manga series will launch in the December issue of Futabasha's Monthly Manga Town magazine on November 5. This is the same magazine that ran Usui's Crayon Shin-chan manga until this past February, and UY Studio has been drawing Shin Crayon Shin-chan (New Crayon Shin-chan) in it since August.
CMX Manga released part of the original Crayon Shin-chan manga in English in North America. Funimation adapted the television anime into dubbed English, and America's Adult Swim network used to run episodes every Sunday morning.
