Stand Alone Complex T-Shirts from Uniqlo

posted on by Andrew Osmond

Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex is the latest anime represented in this year's line of T-shirts from the clothes designer-retailer UNIQLO. The seven new shirts are displayed on the UNIQLO site, under the heading, 'Kōkaku Kidōtai: Stand Alone Complex.' ('Kokaku Kidotai' means 'Armoured Riot Police' and is the Japanese name of the franchise known as 'Ghost in the Shell' in English.)

Like UNIQLO's other anime T-shirts, the Stand Alone Complex line retails at £12.99 each. UNIQLO has already released T-shirts based on Naruto (see here), Dragon Ball Z (see here), and the game series Monster Hunter Portable 3d (see here). One Piece is provisionally scheduled to follow in March, along with a further batch of Naruto shirts.

According to a UNIQLO press-release in January:

Anime and manga are vibrant, growing parts of UK subculture and its fashions are trickling down onto the streets, with Victorian frills, manly shoulder pads and hyper-real heroic anime get-ups. Anime fashion has evolved out of the moving image and into global culture.
