Animate USA Adds Selfish Love Boys-Love Manga to Kindle

Central Park Media originally released 2-volume series in North America in 2004

ANIMATE USA announced on Sunday that it is releasing Naduki Koujima's boys-love manga Selfish Love on web retailer Amazon.com's Kindle store, as well as three other volumes originally published in Japan by Libre Publishing. These volumes are P.B.B. Play Boy Blues volume 6, Sound of My Voice -Boku no Koe- volume 10, and Hyper Loving A Maniac volume 5.

Selfish Love is a two-volume series revolving around a university's Honors Society president, who gets to choose his vice-president and selects a hapless classmate. Japanese publisher Biblos originally released the series in 2003; after the publisher went bankrupt, a collection of companies which included Animate Japan acquired its catalogue and established Libre Publishing. Central Park Media's Be Beautiful line originally licensed the series from Biblos and released it in North America in 2004. Central Park Media closed in 2009.

ANIMATE USA is the American arm of the ANIMATE retail chain for character goods, and it has been releasing boys-love manga from Libre on the Kindle e-book platform since April. The latest batch of titles have all been published in the United States before.

Last week, the North American yaoi manga publisher Digital Manga Publishing revealed that Amazon had pulled some of its yaoi titles from the U.S. Kindle store. An Animate representative informed ANN that some of its titles had been "blocked" by Amazon and that they had no current plans to deal with the issue, although it is under consideration.
