Japanese Rock Band Stereopony to Break Up

posted on by Egan Loo
Members to continue separately after making Bleach, Gundam 00, Eureka 7: AO, Letter Bee Reverse themes

The members of the Japanese pop rock band Stereopony announced on Tuesday that they are disbanding. The band was already on a one-month "recharging" break due to vocalist Aimi's throat polyp surgery. During that time, drummer Shiho and bassist Nohana went abroad to study music. After the break, the three discussed the paths they wanted to take next and decided to disband.

The individual members will still continue working in music. Shiho and Nohana are releasing a new single on October 24 with musician Evan Taubenfeld under the name "Evanpony." Aimi will also continue making music in some form. The members of the band will hold a concert on October 6 at Tokyo's Shibuya Club Quattro and interact with their fans about their breakup.

Stereopony performed theme songs for the Bleach, Gundam 00, Darker than Black: Gemini of the Meteor, EUREKA SEVEN AO, and Letter Bee Reverse anime. The group was also put into anime themselves to promote "Sumairaifu," the theme song to the 2009 anime film Yatterman: Shin Yatter Mecha Daishūgō! Omocha no Kuni de Daikessen da Koron!
