Viz to Host Tiger & Bunny: The Rising's Theatrical Screenings

Screenings of 2nd film to be held in same month as Japan premiere

North American anime licensor Viz Media announced at its panel at New York Comic Con on Friday that it has licensed the Tiger & Bunny The Movie -The Rising- film, and plans to screen the film theatrically in North America within the same month that the film opens in Japan. The company noted it will reveal a final list of theaters that will screen the film at a later date. Viz had mentioned in April that it was still in talks with Sunrise for the film.

The film will revolve around a mystery that happens on the day of the "Justice Day" festival that celebrates Sternbild's legendary goddess.

The film will again star Hiroaki Hirata as Kotetsu T. Kaburagi and Masakazu Morita as Barnaby Brooks Jr. The film will also feature new hero, Ryan Goldsmith, who uses the hero name "Golden Ryan." Yūichi Nakamura is voicing the new character. Golden Ryan will serve as Barnaby Brooks Jr.'s new partner in the film. The television series scriptwriter Masafumi Nishida is again writing the screenplay and serving as story director, while Yoshitomo Yonetani is directing the film.

Tiger & Bunny The Movie -The Rising- was originally scheduled to open this fall, but has been delayed until February 8, 2014.

Viz had screened the first film in the series, Tiger & Bunny the Movie: The Beginning, at New People Cinema in San Francisco in September 2012, one week after the film opened in Japan. The company then released the film on DVD and Blu-ray Disc on October 1 after streaming the film's English dub on Neon Alley.
