Japanese Box Office, October 12-13

The Wind Rises, anohana stay in top 10

Studio Ghibli and Hayao Miyazaki's The Wind Rises (Kaze Tachinu) anime film fell from #5 to #7 during its 13th weekend. The film centers on Jirō Horikoshi (played by Evangelion director Hideaki Anno), the designer of Japan's famed Mitsubishi A6M Zero fighter plane of World War II. The film earned 53,703,837 yen (US$548,745) on 454 screens for a new total of 11,626,431,717 yen (US$118,798,879).

The Ano Hi Mita Hana no Namae o Boku-tachi wa Mada Shiranai. (anohana) film stayed at #9 in its seventh weekend. The film retells the anohana story from the character Menma's point of view with a new epilogue. The film earned 26,061,252 yen (US$266,293) on 30 screens for a total of 950,864,504 yen (US$9,715,933).

The Kara no Kyoukai: Mirai Fukuin film fell from #9 to #12 on Box Office Mojo's chart in its third weekend. The film adapts Kinoko Nasu's Kara no Kyoukai: Mirai Fukuin (The Garden of Sinners/recalled out summer) epilogue side story. The film earned 13,075,023 yen (US$133,567) on 32 screens for a new total of 146,579,427 yen (US$1,497,382).

Warner Japan's remake of Clint Eastwood's 1992 Unforgiven film starting Ken Watanabe (The Last Samurai, Inception) fell from #11 to #14 on Box Office Mojo's chart in its fifth weekend. The film earned 9,118,043 yen (US$93,168) on 327 screens for a new total of 665,710,966 yen (US$6,802,234).
