Vagabond Manga to Go on 4-Month Hiatus

Takehiko Inoue to resume the manga on June 19 after working on research

This year's 12th issue of Kodansha's Morning magazine is announcing on Thursday that Takehiko Inoue's Vagabond manga will go on a four-month hiatus. The weekly magazine explained that the break is due to Inoue working on research and other reasons. The manga will return in the weekly magazine in the 29th issue on June 19.

The manga resumed in the magazine in 2012 after a roughly 18-month hiatus due to health issues. Viz Media published the 34th volume in North America last year.

The Vagabond manga, which tells a fictionalized account of real-life swordsman Musashi Miyamoto, has received critical acclaim in Japan and abroad. It won a Kodansha Manga Award in the general category in 2000, as well as the Tezuka Osamu Cultural Prize in 2002. Inoue, also renowned for his basketball manga Slam Dunk, was nominated for the 2003 Eisner Award in the Best Writer/Artist category.
