Bandai Visual: Planned Gargantia 2nd Season Scrapped in Favor of Novel
posted on by Crystalyn Hodgkins
Bandai Visual publicity producer Yūji Hirooka revealed at a Gargantia on the Verdurous Planet event in Tokyo on Friday evening that the staff had planned a sequel anime to the series, but due to "various circumstances," they couldn't produce the series. Instead, Hirooka noted that the scenario the staff had planned to use for a second season is being turned into a novel.
The staff of the anime held the event to commemorate the theatrical release of the second and final part of the Suisei no Gargantia: Meguru Kōro, Haruka video anime series on Saturday.
The first audience members who attend the screening of the second OVA will receive a "Gargantia of the Verduous Planet Sequel Novel Prologue" short story. Hirooka added that the full sequel novel will ship in summer 2015. The prologue lists that Daishiro Tanimura, who worked on scripts for both the original television anime series and the OVA, is the author.
Hirooka added that the keyword for the novel is "land," and that the novel will be the conclusion of Ledo's story.
The first part of the new OVA screened in 10 Japanese theaters on September 27.
The Blu-ray Disc with the first episode shipped on November 21, and the second Blu-ray Disc will ship on May 27. Each Blu-ray Disc retails for 7,500 yen (about US$75), and both releases include English subtitles.
Crunchyroll streamed the television series as it aired, and Viz Media licensed the series for home video release with an English dub.
