"Episode 13" to ship with 9th novel volume on March 9

Kadokawa began streaming a promotional video on Thursday for the ninth volume of Yū Moroboshi's Sky Wizards Academy (Kūsen Madōshi Kōhosei no Kyōkan) light novel series. The video previews the Blu-ray Disc containing an original unaired anime episode (episode 13) that Kadokawa will bundle with the volume when it ships on March 9.

The bundle will include a variant cover and a tall case for both the novel and the Blu-ray Disc. The deadline to pre-order the bundle at bookshops is October 31, and the deadline to pre-order from the Web Kadokawa Store is November 15. The set will retail for 4,400 yen (about US$36).

The light novel's story is set in a world where humanity, driven off the land by the threat of magical armored insects, now live in aerial floating cities. Thus wizards — aerial combat mages who fight the insects with magical powers — came into being.

Kanata Age (Eiji) is a young man who lives on the floating wizard academy city of "Misutogan." He was once celebrated as the "Black Master Swordsman," the elite ace of the S128 special team. However, he is now despised as the "traitor of the special team." One day, he is assigned as the instructor of E601, a team that has suffered 10 consecutive defeats. E601 has three girls — Misora Whitale, Lecty Eisenach, and Rico Flamel — with one or two peculiar quirks.

Moroboshi launched the light novel series with illustrations by Mikihiro Amami in July 2013. Kadokawa's Fujimi Shobo will publish the eighth novel volume on October 20. Arisu Shidō launched a manga adaptation in the September issue of Media Factory's Monthly Comic Alive magazine in July 2014.

The light novel's TV anime adaptation premiered on July 8. Takayuki Inagaki (Rosario + Vampire, My mental choices are completely interfering with my school romantic comedy) directed the anime at Diomedea (Gingitsune, Astarotte's Toy). Funimation streamed the series as it aired, and is also offering a broadcast dub for the show.
