1st episode stars Maaya Sakamoto as Scáthach, Ayane Sakura as Thief Arthur

Square Enix began streaming the first episode on Thursday of the web anime adaptation of Choboraunyopomi's (Ai Mai Mi) Jaku-San-Sei Million Arthur manga, Square Enix's official four-panel comedy manga of its Million Arthur smartphone role-playing games.

The episode shows Scáthach (voiced by Maaya Sakamoto) teaching a newly arrived Thief Arthur (voiced by Ayane Sakura) on the latter's quest to keep running forward-right forever. When Thief Arthur questions why it has to be forward-right, Scáthach scolds her, telling her the game balance would be ruined if she ever went left, as she might encounter a strong character.

In the anime, Jouji Nakata will play Lion, and Rikiya Koyama will play Uma (horse). According to Square Enix producer Hiroaki Iwano, the anime will run for four cours (quarters of a year). Square Enix is streaming the anime on YouTube and on Niconico.

Square Enix launched the original Kaku-San-Sei Million Arthur game on iOS and Android devices in 2012. The card battle role-playing game centers on the true King Arthur who pulls a sword from a stone — except there are a million people who claim the title, each with an Excalibur sword.

A PlayStation Vita and a Nintendo 3DS port debuted last year. A live-action television adaptation of the game then aired in Japan last year. Kai-Ri-Sei Million Arthur, an expanded four-player "character command RPG" followup, debuted in Japan in November 2014.

South Korean publisher Gamevil partnered with Square Enix to bring the game franchise to North America, South America, Europe, and the Middle East. However, Gamevil announced in October that it is ending service of the game in North America and Europe in December.

Kazuma Kamachi (A Certain Magical Index) wrote for the first game. A team of more than 50 illustrators worked on the Kaku-San-Sei Million Arthur cards, including major figures such as Kiyotaka Haimura (A Certain Magical Index), Yuichi Tanaka (A Certain Magical Index, Natsuiro Kiseki), Hidari (Fractale, Natsuiro Kiseki), Miho Takeoka (Bungaku Shōjo), Suzuhito Yasuda (Durarara!!, Yozakura Quartet), BUNBUN, Takehito Harada (Disgaea), Kouhaku Kuroboshi (Sky Girls), Tinkle (Ro-Kyu-Bu!), VOFAN (Bakemonogatari, Tokitowa), and Yasu (Toradora!). Hyadain composed the soundtrack.

Choboraunyopomi has been serializing the Jaku-San-Sei Million Arthur manga within the Million Arthur games themselves and on the Niconico Seiga site since 2012. Three of her other manga have also inspired anime: Ai Mai Mi, Choboraunyopomi Gekijō Dainimaku Ai Mai Mi: Mōsō Catastrophe, and Magical Somera-chan (Fushigi na Somera-chan).
