DMM's Touken Ranbu "sword personification training game" takes famous swords from Japanese history and interprets them as bishōnen. Nitroplus designed the characters and scenario. The game launched in Japan last year, and it has more than 1.5 million registered users. The game has acquired a large female fanbase and inspired a wide range of merchandise, as well as several manga and stage productions.

The studio ufotable is producing one anime adaptation of the game, which is tentatively titled Touken Ranbu and slated for 2017. Takashi Naoya (Luck & Logic co-director, Selector Infected Wixoss animation director) is directing a separate television anime titled Touken Ranbu: Hanamaru at Doga Kobo. Doga Kobo's Touken Ranbu: Hanamaru will premiere on TOKYO MX on October 2 at 24:00 (effectively October 3 at 12:00 a.m.)
