Netflix U.S. Streams Midnight Diner: Tokyo Stories Live-Action Series With English Subtitles

Netflix U.S. is now streaming the fourth season of the live-action series adaptation of Yaro Abe's Shinya Shokudō manga under the title Midnight Diner: Tokyo Stories. The season has 10 episodes.
The fourth season, which is a Netflix exclusive, once again stars Japanese Academy Award winner Kaoru Kobayashi (Tokyo Tower: Mom and Me, and Sometimes Dad, Princess Mononoke) as Master. Guest stars in the fourth season include Reiko Kataoka, Koen Kondo, Yoshinori Okada, Go Ah-sung, Mamiko Itō, Yūma Yamoto, Kotaro Shiga, Mitsuru Hirata, Kōsuke Toyohara, B-saku Satō, Hirofumi Arai, Yoshiyuki Morishita, Tamaki Ogawa, Junko Miyashita, and Toru Kazama.
Joji Matsuoka, alongside Nobuhiro Yamashita, Shōtarō Kobayashi, Tatsushi Ōmori, Yasuhiro Yoshida, and Fumio Nomoto, directed the new season. The season premiered on Netflix in 190 countries on October 21.
The manga's second live-action film adaptation, titled Zoku Shinya Shokudō, premiered in Japan on Saturday.
The manga, which was nominated for the bookseller-selected Manga Taishō ("Cartoon Grand Prize") in 2009, centers on the proprietor of a small, mysterious cafeteria in Shinjuku and his customers. The cafeteria opens at midnight to fix customers any dish they request.
The manga's third live-action television season premiered in 2014 and ran for 10 episodes, while the first live-action film debuted in January 2015. The second live-action television season premiered in 2011 and ran for 10 episodes. The first series also ran for 10 episodes in 2009.
Shogakukan's Big Comic Original magazine currently serializes the manga. The publisher released the 17th volume on September 30. The manga also won the general category award at the 55th Shogakukan Manga Awards in 2010, and it received the grand prize at the 39th Japan Cartoonist Awards that same year.
