This year's 10th issue of Shueisha's Weekly Shonen Jump magazine is announcing on Monday that the new episodes of the Isobe Isobee Monogatari: Ukiyo wa Tsurai yo (Chronicle of Isobe -The Life Is Hard-) "mame anime" will begin streaming only on the Gyao! streaming service this spring. The issue also features text teasing whether to call the new episodes a second season or not.
Mankyū (Tono to Issho, Fist of the North Star: Strawberry Flavor, Donyatsu, [email protected]) is again directing the anime.
The Jump Festa event, which was held in Tokyo on December 17-18, announced that the production of more episodes had been green-lit for 2017. The Jump Special Anime Festa, which was held in various locations on November 27 and December 4, screened the entire "mame anime" series and featured a "special video" for the franchise.
The main cast members of the first anime were:
- Daiki Yamashita as Isobee Isobe
- Ayumu Murase as Jou Nakajima, Dog, and Ienobu
- Chiaki Takahashi as Mother, Dango (sweet dumpling) shop girl, and Iemitsu
- Takashi Matsuyama as Gennai Hiraga, Ieyoshi, and Teacher
- Raikō Sakamoto as Narrator, Daihachi Shiga, Ieyasu Tokugawa, and Yoshinobu
A stage play adaptation of the manga premiered in April. The play starred Takuya Inoue as Isobee Isobe and Yoshihiro Nakayama as Mother. Kenichi Suemitsu wrote the scripts and directed the play, and Shunsuke Wada was in charge of the music.
Ryō Nakama originally published the manga as a one-shot, then he launched the serialized version in Weekly Shonen Jump in October 2013. Shueisha describes the manga:
A loser samurai—Isobee, who lives in any way a dawdling, slacking life, takes action (sort of) in the city of Edo. Weekly Shonen Jump's gone mad with a new style Ukiyoe Gag Manga!!
Shueisha published the manga's 12th compiled volume on November 4, and the 13th compiled volume will ship on March 3.
The series inspired a four-episode series of online Flash anime shorts that premiered in December 2013.
