Kimi ni Todoke Manga Takes 1-Month Break, Enters Final Arc

Manga goes on hiatus due to author's illness

The staff of Shueisha's Bessatsu Margaret magazine announced on Thursday that Karuho Shiina's Kimi ni Todoke manga did not appear in the August issue on Thursday due to Shiina's sudden illness. The manga will return in next month's issue on August 12.

The July issue of the magazine announced last month that the series would enter its final arc with the next chapter, which was previously scheduled to debut in the August issue.

The manga tells the story of Sawako Kuronuma, nicknamed Sadako (from The Ring) because of her long black hair and pale skin makes her appear gloomy. The popular Shōta Kazahaya builds a friendship with Sawako that blossoms into romance.

Shiina began the series in 2006 and the 28th volume (pictured right) shipped in February. The series has consistently ranked among the top-selling manga in Japan. Viz Media publishes the English version of the manga.

NIS America released the first and second seasons of the anime adaptation. A live-action adaptation premiered in Japan in 2010.
