1st 44-episode series chronicled high school girls during famed 88-temple Shikoku pilgrimage

Anime studio ufotable announced at the Machi Asobi Vol.19 event on Saturday that its Ohenro (Ohenro: Hachihachi Aruki) television anime series is getting a second season. The anime will also have a crowdfunding campaign.

The original anime series aired for 44 episodes from May 2014-March 2015.

"Ohenro" refers to a pilgrim completing the Shikoku pilgrimage traditionally done by foot to eighty-eight Buddhist temples. The first anime's story followed three high school girls as they complete the pilgrimage in commemoration of its 1,200th anniversary.

The first anime series starred Nanami Yamashita as Mao, Yuri Ehara as Sawa, and Marika Kōno as Megumi.

Masato Nagamori served as both character designer and animation director of the show at ufotable. Hikaru Kondo was the animation producer, and Hiroyuki Kashima composed the music.
