Crunchyroll Adds 'Welcome, Chitose' Anime With 1st 8 Episodes

posted on by Rafael Antonio Pineda

Crunchyroll announced on Wednesday that it has added the Welcome, Chitose (Okoshiyasu, Chitose-chan) anime for users in the United States and Canada, with the first eight episodes already available. Eight new episodes will debut every Wednesday.

Crunchyroll also added the Osomatsu-kun, Swan Lake, and The Wonderful Wizard of Oz anime. Osomatsu-kun is available for users in the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, Ireland, Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, Denmark, Finland, Sweden, Norway, and Iceland. Swan Lake and The Wonderful Wizard of Oz are available for users in the United States and Canada, and Crunchyroll is streaming those anime with an English dub and English subtitles.

The Welcome, Chitose series of shorts premiered in Japan last October. Shinichi Tsutsumi is narrating the series, and all characters are voiced by either Kōji Yusa (Yowamushi Pedal's Midōsuji, Blue Exorcist's Renzō Shima) or Kotori Koiwai (Non Non Biyori's Renge Miyauchi, Gatchaman Crowds' Utsutsu).

Yukiko Natsume's original "soothing short" manga follows Chitose, a fluffy Emperor penguin chick living in Kyoto. The stories depict such familiar Kyoto locales as Togetsu-kyō bridge, Arashiyama Bamboo Grove, Fushimi Inari-taisha shrine, and Kiyomizu-dera temple from a penguin's perspective, as well as Kyoto cuisine.

Kyō Yatate (Bananya, Sockie's Frontier Quest) is directing the anime and handling the series composition at the studio Gathering. Jun Mita is both the character designer and animation director, Haruko Nobori is the color designer, Yoshinobu Yamada is the art director, and Nobuyuki Abe is the sound director. Koguma is composing the music, and VAP is producing and presenting the project.
