Makoto Shinkai Releases Video Message for Indian Fans

Crunchyroll India began streaming a video message from Makoto Shinkai for his Indian fans on Saturday.
In the video, Shinkai stated he is currently working on a new work (note: while the below video uses the subtitle "new film," Shinkai himself used the phrase "new work."). He added that by the time the work is completed and "opens," he hopes to visit India again.

Shinkai's Suzume (Suzume no Tojimari) film opened in Japan at #1 in November 2022 and sold 1.33 million tickets to earn 1.88 billion yen (about US$13.49 million) in its first three days. The film opened in Indian theaters in Hindi and in Japanese with English subtitles in April 21, 2023. PVR Inox hosted early preview screenings of the film in Mumbai, Pune, Delhi, Gurgaon, Noida, and Bangalore on April 9, 2023. It hosted a second round of early fan screenings for the film in Mumbai, Pune, Delhi, and Kolkata on April 16, 2023.
PVR Inox hosted a meet and greet with Makoto Shinkai in Mumbai preceding the film's premiere. The company gave away signed copies of the film's novel to select attendees at the event. Shinkai also attended the premiere event itself and participated in a Q&A session with attendees on April 20, 2023.
The film also screened in over 100 locations as part of the Makoto Shinkai Film Festival. The film crossed ₹10,00,00,000 (approximately US$1,210,393) at the Indian box office before its February 2024 rerelease.
Weathering With You was the first anime film to commercially release in theaters across India.
The Japan Foundation's Japanese Film Festival India (JFF) event has screened The Garden of Words, 5 Centimeters Per Second, your name., The Place Promised in Our Early Days, and Children Who Chase Lost Voices from Deep Below in the past.
5 Centimeters Per Second got a live-action film adaptation that opened in Japan on October 10.
