Faulconner Orchestrates Lady Death

Faulconer Productions Orchestrates Sound Design for ADV Films' Anime Feature Lady Death The Motion Picture

Dallas, Texas-(May 18, 2005)-Faulconer Productions and Bruce Faulconer, already known worldwide for composing the original score of the number-one-rated animated series Dragon Ball Z, was commissioned to create the sound design for Lady Death The Motion Picture, the newest anime feature from ADV Films [www.ladydeathtmp.com] now available on DVD. Anime, which has become very popular in today's mainstream entertainment is the French term used by the Japanese for animation and is generally characterized by a larger budget, a more focused and developed plot structure and characters, and music composed or arranged specifically for the work.

Creating the ambience, sound effects, and sound design for an action-packed animated feature length film is a rigorously challenging creative endeavor, more so than the sound design requirements of a live action film production. "In live action films, you begin with on-camera sound sources, but in animated features, you begin with silence. A blank canvas awaits your imagination, which is great, because with a fantasy action film, you need to immerse and transport your audience into another dimension never before visited," Bruce Faulconer said.

Faulconer's inspiration was drawn from films including Gladiator, Master and Commander, and Lord of the Rings. From raging battles between demon armies in hell to the mystical and magical powers of Lady Death and her demon wolf companions, the sound design carries the imagination into the far away domain of her nightmarish world and the epic challenges of her story.

Faulconer's sister company, CakeMix Recording was commissioned to provide a 5.1 surround mix for the anticipated director's cut DVD which ADV is planning to release in October 2005. Faulconer also created the original music and sound design for the current anime DVD D7: Nightfall.

Bruce Faulconer holds a Doctor of Musical Arts Composition from the University of Texas at Austin, two Postdoctoral Fellowships from the Ohio State University, and various composer grants including grants from the National Endowment for the Arts, the Ohio Arts Council, the MacDowell Colony, and the McLean-Paris Foundation.
