PLAY! Symphony Performed Live by the National Symphony Orchestra

NSO @ Wolf Trap
The Most Popular Soundtracks of Electronic Gaming

At Wolf Trap National Park for the Performing Arts

Wolf Trap National Park for the Performing Arts will be the fourth North American stop on the world tour of “PLAY! A Video Game Symphony.” The highly acclaimed new program draws its scores from the soundtracks of blockbuster video games. “PLAY!” will be performed by the National Symphony Orchestra and the Master Chorale of Washington at the Filene Center at Wolf Trap on Friday, August 4, 2006 at 8:30 p.m. Arnie Roth, conductor for the entire “PLAY!” tour, will lead the performance.

Brought to vibrant life by a full orchestra and chorus, the “PLAY!” concert features award-winning music from popular video game titles including Final Fantasy®, Silent Hill®, Battlefield 1942™, Metal Gear Solid®, World of Warcraft®, Sonic the Hedgehog™, The Elder Scrolls III®: Morrowind™, and Shenmue™. As the music is performed, video game connoisseurs can enjoy outstanding graphics sequences depicting memorable moments from popular games on large screens suspended above the orchestra and on the lawn.

“The spring debut of the 'PLAY!' concert series at Chicago's Rosemont Theater elicited an overwhelmingly positive response from fans and critics alike. Nestled as it is amid the rolling, wooded hills of America's only National Park for the Performing Arts, I predict that Wolf Trap's Filene Center will make another magical venue for 'PLAY!'” says Jason Michael Paul, producer of “PLAY!” “We hope that the video game fans and serious music aficionados of the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area will pack a picnic dinner and join us on the lawn August 4, 2006 for a very special evening of musical entertainment.”

The two-hour concert will be performed by the National Symphony Orchestra and the Master Chorale of Washington and conducted by Grammy Award-winning artist Arnie Roth. "Game players and connoisseurs of orchestral music recognize that some of today's most thrilling musical scores are being produced by composers working in the video game genre,” says Roth. “This spectacular concert series speaks to the growing popularity and artistic sophistication of this form of entertainment and will attract people of all generations to some of the world's greatest concert halls."
