Genericon XXVII to Hold Its First Public Concert and Dance.

TROY, NY (February 19, 2014) – Genericon, the annual student-run anime, science-fiction, and gaming convention held at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, is holding its first free admission public concert and dance the weekend of February 28 - March 2, 2014. We're happy to announce Mirk and Dynamite Pleasure Chair as our musical guests for this year's concert. The dance this year will be titled "2001: A Dance Odyssey" and feature world-class DJs from the convention circuit.

MIRK is an edgy 7 piece alternative hip-hop powerhouse that seamlessly blends elements of Soul, R&B, Rap, Rock, and Pop into a completely original, utterly unique hit making machine. Formed in Albany, NY in 2009 and led by frontman Josh "MIRK" Mirsky, MIRK has quickly established themselves as the MUST SEE live show in the region.

Dynamite Pleasure Chair is nerd punk metal rock that has songs about 80s & 90s movies, video games, & Dr. Seuss books with a live performance that will be burned into your mind forever!

The eclectic and exciting dance this year will feature four DJs spinning a variety of genres ranging from tech and house to happy hardcore and J-Core. The DJs for the night are T2kazuya, MaidenV, Burst, and djtetsuo.

Genericon is an annual, student-run sci-fi, anime, and gaming convention, the oldest of its kind in the United States. For 27 years, it has been run by student staff and volunteers at the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute campus in Troy, New York. The convention features a 48-hour video game room, anime and sci-fi screenings, role playing games, a cosplay contest, vendors, artists' alley, panels by special guests and fans, a concert, gaming tournaments and more.
