Crunchyroll Acquires 'Sentenced To Be A Hero' Season 2 Following AnimeJapan Reveal

CRUNCHYROLL ANNOUNCES ACQUISITION OF “SENTENCED TO BE A HERO” SEASON 2 FOLLOWING ANIMEJAPAN REVEAL
The Breakout Dark Fantasy Returns As Xylo's Fight Against An Unbreakable Cycle Of Punishment Intensifies

Los Angeles, California (March 27, 2026) – Crunchyroll, the ultimate home for anime worldwide, announced today the acquisition of Sentenced to Be a Hero Season 2, following the official Season 2 production announcement revealed during AnimeJapan 2026.

The dark fantasy series, which quickly emerged as a standout among Winter 2026's dark fantasy lineup, will return for a second season streaming only on Crunchyroll. Additional details regarding release timing and territories will be announced at a later date.

The announcement was accompanied by a newly released teaser visual and announcement trailer, offering fans a first glimpse at the next chapter of the series.

Based on the award-winning original novel written by Rocket Shokai and illustrated by Mephisto, Sentenced to Be a Hero introduces a world where heroism is not a choice—but a punishment.

In Season 1, fans were introduced to Xylo Forbartz, a condemned goddess killer forced into endless battle as part of Penal Hero Unit 9004. Trapped in a relentless cycle where death offers no escape, Xylo fights against monstrous abominations in a war without end. But when a mysterious new goddess enters the battlefield, their unexpected alliance begins to challenge the very system that binds them.

The announcement of Season 2 signals the continuation of this gripping story, as the fight against fate, destruction, and the nature of heroism itself intensifies.

Sentenced to Be a Hero Season 1 is currently available only on Crunchyroll.
