To be honest, I absolutely adore Sal Jiang's work, and I read this when it was released in Japanese, so I knew I'd love it in English. Sadako is a young witch who has the very relatable desire to get out and meet people. Unlike most of us, she has no social anxiety and has magic, so basic concerns of money and jobs fail to be an obstacle. Her goal is the fairly popular trend to get as much attention online as possible.

When Sadako “comes out” as a witch, her feed develops haters, one of whom she decides to track down. I have to be honest, I have in the past considered tracking down serial haters, but I always came down on the side that, while they are putting so much energy into hating, I'm not thinking about them at all. Sadako not only finds Hanako, but embroils her in the worst version of Hanako's life that the woman could imagine. We can expect a frenemies pairing going forward for them, with an emphasis on the enemies part for now.

Jiang's art is full of motion and….let's call it looseness. Characters turn and twist, flail and run all the time. Facial expressions are often overblown slightly for maximum impact. I find the art appealing, but I can totally understand that people might find it to me too much for me, especially if you're used to tighter, more constricted scenarios like school or workplace stories. This urban fantasy story is full of action and some visual tropes of horror that, in many cases, turn out to be comedy. What will happen to our horror-genre named heroines is still up in the air….literally.

Jiang has a terrific skill at drawing characters forced out of their comfort zone by someone else who simply ignores the rules. This witch and woman who hates witches pair is going to be a lot of fun.
