Tadano Mezashi's first installment of Lessons from an Old Man has the juice! As you'd expect from the first installment in a series, a lot of this volume is set up and the core plot feels fairly unresolved at the end. However, Lessons from an Old Man is already displaying a really solid grasp of common anxieties and hypocrisies around human sexuality, and I'm left deeply curious about how the story evolves from here.
The core premise is that a gifted and talented young woman, Akane, is in a healthy relationship and anxious about it growing into a physical one. After expressing these anxieties to her tutor, she receives some dubiously wanted advice and hands on learning experiences in various sexual acts. On top of being a fairly fleshed out inciting event for a cuckolding story, the character writing in Lessons from an Old Man is shockingly informed and even relatable to me. It's completely believable that a protagonist who prides herself on being hyper competent and constantly praised for being the most capable person among her peers would do something wild and unnecessary to avoid admitting to someone she likes that she's not confident in her ability to perform physical intimacy.
This motivation also makes Lessons from an Old Man feel like it's commenting on the sexual expectations placed on young women under patriarchy. The double standard of women both needing to be great at sex while also having limited experience with it weighs on a lot of women. Even without knowing what's coming in future installments, I'll give Lessons from an Old Man all the praise in the world for understanding young people's feelings and socially informed worries about sex.
While the writing in Lessons from an Old Man is strong, the art leaves a bit to be desired so far. Akane's design is a bit “generic hentai woman” and the panels tend to be fairly utilitarian with basic backgrounds. That being said, some of the creative choices in the artwork are top tier and very well conveyed. Akane's tutor has a powerful cock, and its size and imposing aura is established by juxtaposing it with the thin and simplistic pens that Akane had been using as masturbation aides. (Btw, do not do this and never insert something into your body that is not designed with the explicit purpose of going into a specified orifice).
All and all, I can confidently say that Lessons from an Old Man left me excited for what's to come and, while I can't see its illustrative weaknesses improving, if the writing stays this good or even improves I think this series is going to be something special.

This is definitely an NTR story that leans more into the creepy and uncomfortable side of things. There's a young innocent girl who is curious about intimacy and thinks she can rely on her uncle for advice, only for that uncle to take advantage of that trust for the sake of molesting her. It starts off with a relatively slow build up with him just teaching her what it's like to pleasure herself so she gets a taste of it and originally I thought the story was going in the direction of her seeking out her uncle after getting an initial taste of that pleasure. Turns out that's not what is happening; the second half of the book just kind of devolves into a pretty bland rape fantasy.
There's a lot of seeds being planted about this transitioning into a mind break and more emotionally invested NTR story in later chapters but for what is being presented in this incredibly small run, that is the most of what you get. So because of that, the book feels very anti-climactic. It technically builds to a conclusion, but that conclusion doesn't really have any emotional payoff unless you're just looking for something that leans into the lack of consent territory mixed with some taboo incest. I like what's potentially teased her more than what's actually shown. This book needed to have more meat in order for it to be satisfying on its own so I would say maybe wait until more chapters come out unless you really just wanna see a heavy uncle prey on his niece.
