I try to add enlightening commentary, but let's face it:
I'm far from perfect.

    EDIT: 2020-12-31
I have seen two three videos that examine the concept of "classics" from distinctly different perspectives:
  1. Gigguk | Garnt Maneetapho

  2. Mother's Basement | Geoff Thew

  3. Bonsai Pop | Mike ?

In this video YouTube user Gigguk (Garnt Maneetapho) talks about SAO in the context of gateway anime.

Seen/Read All (public list) Rating
Orange (TV) Excellent

Pros: Reminded me of me.
Cons: Time travel concept never completely fleshed out.
Orange: Mirai (movie) Masterpiece

  • One hour long.
  • The 1st 10 minutes are a preview of the entire film; but in this alternate telling, there is no mention of Hugh Everett's Many-worlds Interpretation of the Schrödinger Equation.
  • When something makes me tear up; then you're damned straight that I'm automatically gonna consider giving it a high rating ─ 11/11 in this case.
  • This retelling of the series spends ½ of the film presenting the POV of the protagonists ten years in the future, with different timelines presented.
Origin ~Spirits of the Past~ (movie) Good

I love the opening sequence, but the movie ends with more of a whimper than a bang.....

From Theron Martin's review:

What it lacks is a soul. A lot of things that look and sound good go on, but the story has all the depth, development, and spirit of an average fantasy RPG computer game.
Other Worlds (movie) Masterpiece
1 min. OAV by Makoto Shinkai -- look, just take the time to see what you think of it.
Outbreak Company (TV) Excellent
Outlaw Star (TV) Very good (edit.dub & sub)
Pro: Nice OP & EDs!
Con: I know that comparing it with Cowboy Bebop is unfair, but Bebop has the better ending.
Overlord (TV) Excellent (dub & sub)
Even though it doesn't explain how Momonga got trapped in the game and couldn't log out, I found the action to be quite exciting! The OP is great, as well!

Because the studio Madhouse produced this, there is unlikely to be a 2nd season.....

Overlord II (TV) Excellent (dub), Masterpiece (sub)
Pros:
  • Great OP & ED!
  • Great OST! (BGM)
  • The animation is great!
  • morally compromised characters
Con: I really didn't care for the farce being acted out in episode #13 by the morally compromised characters.
Overlord III (TV) Excellent (dub), Masterpiece (sub)
see episode reviews
So now Ains is morally compromised.....
Rebecca Silverman's review is more eloquent than what I might write.
Pale Cocoon (OAV) Excellent
Paprika (movie) Very good (dub & sub)
Pro: The OP & ED are great!
Con: In my opinion, Dr. Atsuko Chiba loses her agency to (Japanese) structure in the very last scene -- she isn't even in it!
Patema Inverted (movie) Excellent (dub & sub)

This is the expanded version of the ONA series.
  • 20:30 interesting use of OST.....
  • 23:25 nice graphics/animation
  • Would have rated at 11/11 (Masterpiece) but the plot just wasn't quite good enough.....
  • The dub is remarkably good.....
    ADR Director: Stephanie Sheh
    Assistant ADR Director: Anthony Tortorici
Patema Inverted: Beginning of the Day (ONA) Very good
This is the original version that was expanded upon in the movie.
Patlabor 2: The Movie (movie 2) Very good (dub & sub)
Patlabor: The Movie (movie 1) Weak (dub), Decent (sub)
