Ok so it's been almost two years since Nana had to be put on hold and i can't seem to find any information on Ai Yazawa since her release from the hospital. So if anyone has any information Please PLEASE let me know. I love her work and I want to know how she is doing.

As it says on the following ANN article: "NANA manga creator Ai Yazawa revealed in the May 4 issue of Kobunsha's Josei Jishin magazine that she returned home in early April from the Tokyo hospital where she was being treated for an unspecified serious illlness. She had put her NANA manga last summer due to the sudden illness. However, she said that she has not gripped a pen once since her illness, and revealed that she does not know when or if she will return to working again."
This is all that everyone knows. If something new happens, in regards to her condition, it will definitely be mentioned. For now, this is the only most recent info that we know. Last edited by Rukiia on Wed Feb 23, 2011 8:14 pm; edited 1 time in total |

ANN has an update on the situation from last year- basically, she left the hospital, but was unsure she could return to the series at the time. "However, she said that she has not gripped a pen once since her illness, and revealed that she does not know when or if she will return to working again. " Given the fairly demanding working conditions of most manga serials, I imagine she's been recuperating before taking up comics again. So, just wish her the best of health, and be patient in the meantime. |

of course her health is the most important thing. i was just wondering if there had been any new news and i just couldn't find it. but it seems that there isn't any new news. I hope she gets well soon, not just because i love her work, but because i can only imagine what its like for an artist to not be able to do what they love. I hope she takes her time getting well. I'm sure all of her fans feel the same way.

That's the thing that always gets me the most when it comes to this situation. Yes, I definitely would be heartbroken if NANA was never finished but it would be so much worse for Ai Yazawa to simply not be able to create any manga period. |

I would be heartbroken too. i love Nana and Paradise Kiss too. I would recommend it to any Ai Yazawa fan who hasn't read it. I think read in an article somewhere that she has started drawing again but i can't find it now.

She did a little NANA-themed holiday greeting in Cookie (?) this past Christmas, I believe. Wish I'd saved the link to it. Edit: Ah, here's a link regarding it. |

That's adorable! And a good sign that she is recovering enough to draw. It's crazy how hard these mangaka work themselves. It's really amazing that more of them aren't getting sick/injured all the time. |

It's also an issue of how many assistants/minions the publishers are willing to provide to help them draw backgrounds etc. |

That is quite cute, good to know she's still with the magazine. It's always odd to read about health issues in the little author talkback sections in Shojo manga for that reason. They work so much, they often keep working through illnesses, only taking a break for major things. I imagine it might keep them from getting some illnesses since they spend so much time indoors/not in large crowds of people. Yet somehow, Yuu Watase always finds time to play videogames.... :) |
