has anyone actually seen this series yet? from the previews it seems pretty good, but it's by the guy who made Aeon Flux, and that art style was hideous.
what 's your opinion?

I have high hopes for Reign, actually. It looks very promising, and I think that the art style is a prime example of just how good Madhouse can be when working with unique source material. They often rise to the occasion when it comes to this sort of thing. Just look at Vampire Hunter D: Bloodlust. Not only is it dropdead gorgeous, but it's intricately written and the English script got rid of dub quibbles because the dub was the original. If the same care was taken with Reign (I'll admit, that's far fetched) then Tokyopop may have a sleeper hit on their hands. Yes, it's coming from nowhere and there is a decidely "He-Man" theme seemingly in play, but Aeon Flux was well written and original. It stands to reason that Reign stands a good chance of being the same.
At the very least, it's more grist in the mill for the "Anime: Japanese only or not?" argument.

I've seen the first episode - if you don't like the art style of Aeon Flux, you won't like this, either.
There seems to be a fair amount of royal politicking (probably gets bloody later, given Alexander the Great's real-life career), sexual overtones and dramatic posing.

Saw the first episode tonight. Impressed by the use of language and conceptual discussion. (Capacity vs Speed vs Speed Capacity)
Talking in imperatives.
Too bad Chung's designs still make me feel like throwing up.

I'll say, when "alexander" is first shown as an adult he has just a frigin thong on. I did not need to see that.

as expected, the character design is awful, but the storyline seems pretty on track

That's not quite what I meant. The actual content doesn't bother me so much. It's the way Chung draws and the colors that go along with it. The combination quite literally makes me feel ill somehow.
Reign is much more to my liking than Aeon Flux, though. Maybe that will help me to grow out of it.

I can agree with the outfits. Although considering the outfits that female characters in anime have been wearing for the past 50 years, I guess payback is a (expletive deleted).
However, the character designs themselves I like. Sort of a cross between Yoshitaka Amano and Stan Lee. Not at all bad, though the waists are hilarious. As a whole, based on that first episode. I think I'll like Reign. It'll at least be worth 13episodes of my time.

Stan Lee doesn't do character designs. Are you thinking of Jim Lee, or Jack Kirby and Steve Ditko, the guys who drew and, for the most part, wrote Lee's comics?

I guess so. I have to admit, I'm not very knowledgable in the field of American comics. But, I stand by my statement that the character designs seem to blend traditional American comics with Yoshitaka Amano's style.

Don't like, in addition to the waist's, look at all the charectors lips. Male or Female. Same. Plot didn't jump out as something that kept me engaged... Dunno, just seemed stupid.

I watched half of it and didn't really understand it. I think they should have kept the block on adult swim the same.

i think Reign is acting as the filler until InuYasha comes back next month.
anyway, *i* like the concept of equal-opportunity thongs ^___^ if only the characters were more bishi... they shoulda sent a shoujo mangaka to fix the designs
at any rate, i'm interested to see how close to alexander's real story (as we know it) is. they seem to have inserted an oedipus syndrome thing ... and all hephaistion does is play the harp (and he has a blue pigtail, but thats another rant...)
