What, specifically, is Rukia's high school voice?

During the very beginning of Bleach, Rukia breaks into a different speech pattern every so often during the school day. I'm not a Japanese speaker, but I can tell from both the tone and subtitles that there's something funny going on. What are we supposed to get from this voice? Elderly innkeeper? 18th century aristocrat? Class clown mocking poetry from medieval lit. class?

One of the conundrums of Bleach is why we don't see more of this later in the series. It seemed charming to me, and I don't think I'm the only one.

They also do that in the dub.

She normally talks all serious and moody, but when she is at school she is suddenly all bubbly and cheerful.

You mean the speech style Rukia uses when she is introduced as a new transfer student in Episode 2? That is (a spoof of) a 'well-bred girl' style of speaking. As Rukia said, '一晩で習得した (I learnt it in just one night)', voice actress Orikasa Fumiko also added unnaturalness to the way of speaking.

Not in the dub that I hear on Cartoon Network.
Are you talking about the French or Spanish dubs?
