A Letter to Momo

Just saw this movie earlier this week at the Hawaii International Film Festival, and it's the best anime I've seen in years. I highly recommend that people go watch this if an opportunity presents itself (if only so I'll have someone else in this thread I can discuss it with.)

(Review by Jason Yadao of the Honolulu Star-Advertiser if you're interested.)

I was lucky enough to catch this back in September at the Toronto International Film Festival. I, too, enjoyed it and loved the look of it. Definitely worth checking out.

Didn't realize this was out already. I'm a huge fan of the director for his work on Jin-Roh. Obviously this will be pretty different from that but I'm still looking forward to it a lot.

I don't think it is "officially" out yet - it seems to be playing the festival circuit. Not sure if it will get a theatrical release in NA, but at the very least, I'm reasonably confident it will get a BD/DVD.

The movie is scheduled for release in Japan during next year's Golden Week (April 29 – May 5), so any overseas releases will probably be a few months after that.

I just noticed this about HIFF's synopsis for A Letter to Momo:

Just how old is she supposed to be?

Hmm, I can't recall if Momo's age was ever stated in the movie itself. If I had to guess, I think 11 is probably closer the mark.

DAMN I'm so jealous! I've been waiting for that movie for years and now, a mere month after leaving Japan I find it was already complete and doing the festival circuit.

If I had learned about that a month ago I swear I would've stormed into Production IG (with an MG-42?) and begged and threatened and cajoled and refused to leave until they showed me the sweet thing.

I haven't been this psyched since I learned Satoshi Kon had finished his second movie. Anime hyper
