|
i saw endless waltz yesterday at a store and i saw many different one like toonami, special edition with white rims around the bow cover and a shiny cover , the special edition with no shiny cover, and another special edition but with no white edges thing on front cover and it said anime legends on it. What is the difference between them?

The special editions contain both the movie and OVA versions of Endless Waltz, while the regular version has only the film. Not sure on what exactly the Anime Legends version contains as I haven't paid attention to the product because I already own the film in Special Edition form.

According to TRSI, the Anime Legends version of Endless Waltz has both the OVA and the movie version, so my guess is that the AL version is just a re-release of the SE version of Endless Waltz

Actually, if the version of the Endless Waltz that was aired on CN originally is the same that is availible on their In Demand channel, then it was the OVA version that was broadcast on Toonami, not the movie. I just watched the movie version off of the SE DVD a couple weeks ago and it was longer and had some scenes not shown on the version that is currently on AS on Demand

Toonami broadcasted the movie version, not the OVA. Those new scenes were present, you just must've missed them or something. What is shown on ASoD should be the same as what was shown on Toonami (although the ASoD version might be uncut; I don't know, I don't have ASoD). |

Toonami did not show the movie version, it showed the OVA. The three episodes were spliced together to form a single "movie," but it was only the OVA episodes played end to end. If memory serves, they even left in the episode title cards.
At least, that's what they showed the first time. If they later acquired the actual movie and began showing that, then that could be what plays on On Demand now. I don't know. |

I also remember the OVA version was shown. I remember the episode titles and, I have the SE version with the shiny cover, I dont remember certain scenes that were in the movie version. I remember no blood though anyway I dont think the movie was shown on Toonami. Wasnt that like 4 years ago?

It was shown 5 years ago, in 2000, the same year the series premiered. And now that you mention it, I also remember seeing the title cards. What I don't understand is why they would bother splicing together episodes when there's already a movie version.

I think the splicing provided better continuity "breaks." Not breaks as in ruining the overall presentation, but since they had to show commercials, the transition to each episode would make it feel less out of the blue, so to speak. Like when you watch regular movies, and they cut off for a commercial at the most inopportune scenes, and just suddenly fade a commercial back to the action. It feels awkward. Doing this with EW, and such few commercial breaks in the first place, it would seem smoother to show the episode title cards after each break, making the presentation feel segemented since you're not really watching the entire thing straight through anyway. (I don't know if I worded that correctly, but I'll try to clarify further if you want me to  ).

That could be it, but I think that might be looking too much into it. In all likelihood, the rights to the OVA and movie are sold separately. In that case, Cartoon Network probably chose the OVA so that they could show it in three parts in the future, if they so chose. It's also possible that Bandai decided not to sell them the movie so that the DVD would contain material that wasn't seen on TV (although I don't recall them ever using that as a selling point, so that seems a bit unlikely). |
