Wolf's Rain is really a good show. So when I downloaded episodes 16 to 18, I was getting in the mood for some 75 minutes of really good anime, especially after the disapointment of recap episode 15.

Well it turns out that episodes 16 to 18 are recap episodes too. Yeah, that's right, FOUR STRAIGHT EPISODES OF RECAPS! I though KareKano had plumbed the depths of recapping, but this is really ridiculous. I think now I understand why the quality of the animation is so good: they took the budget of 4 episodes and spread it to the rest of the series.

When that title is licensed, I really wonder how they'll handle those 4 episodes. I, for one, would never buy a DVD with only recaps on it.

[RUMOR]
Supposedly, Bones (I think that's the company's name) was having some financial problems so they threw together the recap episodes so they could go work on some other project. (Wolf's Rain is their project but they are working on something else that some other company is paying them for.) Rumor has it that these 4 episodes won't really "count" in the episode count...instead of 26 episodes, it'll be 30.

[/RUMOR]

But that is just the rumor I heard.

Yeah, I saw those episodes and man was I possed off that Bones had thrown away so much screen time on recaps. I kept saying "What, the NEXT one's gonna be a recap too? Oh... crap, it is!" I couldn't believe it. Usually they aren't that lazy with storytelling to just fill 4 episodes up with recap nonsense to stretch the story out to 26 episodes.

19 was cool, though.

Umm, where did you download it at, I have heard that some animes the companies were releasing online, but I'm not to familar with Wolf's Rain. Oh, and which is condersered worse by people: recap episodes or filler episodes. I'm guessing that most people will say recap's, but neither of them realy fill a purpose if the anime is telling a story.

Bittorrent is where the fansubs that obey the gentlemens agreement reside.
A site called animesuki keeps links to only unlicensed stuff.

Well, BitTorrent is the client. Anyone can abuse a client. However, AnimeSuki is the site that only keeps the unlicensed titles available.

I was a little disapointed in the sheer number of recaps myself and really hope the 30 episode rumor stated above is true.

I hope this doesn't put a blight on this anime because other then this recap act this has been one of the best if the not the best series I have ever seen. 19 was excellent and I am chomping at the bit for 20.

I know at another forum I post at we have been discussing the releasing possibilites and I REALLY hope whoever is in charge does not end up releasing an all recap dvd...because I really think no one would buy it.... Razz

Recap eps are worse than filler I think... if only slightly moreso. At least filler eps allow you to see something different... these eps of Wolf's Rain have to be the worst torment in trying to follow the series. I'm looking forward to ep 19 though Anime smile

I could do away with these eps if/when it gets licensed - so I hope the company bringing it out releases it on a seperate DVD if so. If anything can hurt this series being brought over, it was this. It's not much in the bigger scheme of things when looking at the big picture of course, but it was a disappointment.

Not necesarrily.

A recap episode is repeating what already was said and happenned. Often times it involves saving a ton of money by re-using existing animation. This is nothing new, nor is it unique to Anime, American TV shows have been having re-cap episodes for ages.

A filler episode is an episode that doesn't fill any purpose towards the series ongoing plotline. Whether or not an episode is actually filler can also bee somewhat subjective in nature. For example, and episode may not serve any purpose in regards to the ongoing plotline, but it may serve a purpose in developing a character's personality in a way that wasn't possible in the ongoing episodes.

So would you consider all of the eps of Cowboy Bebop without Vicious to be Filler? It seems to me that his whole relationship/backstory with Spike and the girl (sorry, can't remember he name at the moment) (also not Faye) is the main plot of the series. I was pretty po'd when they released the greatest sessions dvd without any of the "meat" episodes.
