Am I the only one on here who found it as an environmentalist treatise? Here's some parallels I found:
Goku, Piccolo, and the other Z Fighters = alternative fuels
Turles and his Crusher Corps = Big Oil/Coal/Gas
The eponymous tree uses up all the Earth's life force just to make a bunch of fruit? Sounds like how wasteful it can be to keep using dead dinosaurs to fuel our cars! Goku didn't even need all that energy to fight Turles, let alone reach any given Super Saiyan level. He's far more efficient, like, say, solar/nuclear/wind power.

If only my car could be powered by how loud I can grunt and yell instead of all that gas....
Seriously though, I didn't notice any particular environmental connection, but there are LOT of anime which have similar messages so I wouldn't be surprised.
