It's an anime. 4kids edited a lot of it out, though, so I don't find it to be pleasureable.

Shaman King is anime because it's animation that was directed and produced in Japan. I kind of put it in under the 'pokemon/yugioh/digimon' type of anime, though...
The anime was adapted from the original Shonen Jump manga if you didn't know.

Shaman King is an anime, but how is Shaman King anything like Pokemon or Yugioh? There's no hit video game, no merchandise craze, the TCG was made after the anime was produced and it's not even a popular one at that. Have you ever even actually watched the show? Shaman King is a fighting anime like Naruto and Yu Yu Hakusho. It has no similarites to Pokemon or Yugioh whatsoever.

IMO, yes.
Unfortunately, the only episodes that have been made legally available subtitled are the first six, because 4Kids is run by greedy whores.

I have seen the whole series (fansubed ) and it is a great series. It has some similarities to dbz and bleach in the style of combat (where the opponent is stronger but through a "force of will" the main character beats the odds) but this style only adds to it. I would definitly check it out when the unedited version becomes available to the general public here in north america.

Ugh... i wish anime companies would realize that if they just got themselfs out more into the public and gave us Good stuff instead of edited crap they'd realistically do alot better.
But to stay on topic I say anything touched by 4Kids, is not anime it's just a little kids cartoon.

I wasn't interested in this series when it aired, but I just recently realized that Shaman King was directed by Seiji Mizushima, aka the man who went on to direct Fullmetal Alchemist. I'm much more interested in seeing Shaman King now... Pity that its uncut form is halted.

It's anime. It's from japan. Check the credits at the end.
If you are lucky, you might find some fan subs online.

Shaman King is anime but 4Kids took away most of the good stuff. Therefore it's like Pokemon it was ruined by them.

Yes, Shaman King is anime.
Yes, Shaman King was edited, but honestly it's one of 4kid's better jobs, as, as best I can remember, major plot elements were left mostly intact, and the only thing they changed was practically every character's name (from Manta, Ryu, Horo Horo, Ren, Hao, Cholo Love, etc. to Morty, Rio, Trey, Lenny, Zeke, and Joko). I haven't seen an edit list, and I'm just wokring off memory, but I couldn't think of anythng they explicitly changed other than names (unlike with One Piece where the changes are constant and abusive).
And the Shaman King Master of Spirits GBA games are AWESOME. They're total Castlevania rip-offs, but that's good, because I like Castlevania and they don't make nearly enough of those.

I totally agree with that, but word of caution, the Legacy of Hawk and Spirit games suck. Pokemon rip-offs ahoy.

And unlike Master of spirits, they were BAD rip-offs.
