Hello everyone my name is Crystal and im 21 years old and I have been a fan of anime since 1997. What got me hooked to anime was (of course) DragonBallZ.
My favorite now is Fullmetal Alchemist, even though it's almost over  and Samauri Champloo (sorry I forgot how to spell that).
Oh and btw I love this site.

Hey, i'm new to these boards. I'm from the UK and been into anime for many years (never really got into Manga though). My fave anime is probably Akira.
Currently watching: Chobits, Full Metal Panic, Samurai Deeper Kyo, Outlaw Star and just bought Ghost in the Shell 2 today!

Howdy! I am Molasar and I recently decided to educate myself in the ways of anime. Better late than never, I suppose.
The ANN Encyclopedia and rating stats helped me immensely (as, to a lesser degree, did the Anime Academy). I am well over 25 (in years as well as in tastes) so I am interested in more mature, unusual, creative and weird stories with deeper characterisation and emotional arcs. Multiple layers of meaning, subversive subtext, cunning metaphors, dark humour and clever references are also welcome. My favorite genres outside the realm of anime are horror, SF and fantasy. I also like existentialist, ontological and absurdist themes so I presume the same will apply here. I have nothing against strong language, extreme graphic violence, sex, drugs and heavy metal in my anime.  Now and then, I might also temper the harder stuff with something Miyazakiesque.
Not having seen any of these series yet, I made a list of potentially (on the basis of reviews, descriptions and ratings here and elsewhere) interesting titles I intend to watch (Cowboy Bebop, Serial Experiments Lain, Now and Then, Here and There, Elfen Lied, FLCL, Gantz, Gilgamesh, Texhnolyze, Haibane Renmei, Paranoia Agent, Rurouni Kenshin, Hellsing, Fullmetal Alchemist, Koi Kaze, Samurai Champloo, Boogiepop Phantom...). The rest is in my want to see list which is, I hope, public. If any more experienced fan has some suggestions for series/films which prove anime-are-not-just-for-kids / anime-can-be-as-smart-as-any-other-art-form, please share them with me. I sincerely hope none of those in my list will turn out to be pointless, childish (in a bad way), naive, cliched, boring, a vehicle for selling stuff to kids (Pokemonish commercials with an arc) or involve hours of gratuitous mecha/transformer fights with no discernable purpose. That would put me off. In accordance with teh forum rules, I formally declare that English is indeed my second language (also, I'm sleepy) so I hope you will excuse an occasional typo or an unwieldy construction.
